Water!

So most of you know we just bought a house in December... what we didn't know when we bought the house is that apparently the basement leaks. No one said a word...
So the spring thaw came and we had a little water in the basement... we shampooed the carpets and thought maybe we would be OK... nope... WRONG! Most of you that read this are from Manitoba and therefore know we have received A LOT of rain over the past week or so. This doesn't bode well for my leaking basement. I got home last Tuesday and in one spot I had a puddle... ABOVE the carpet! Yikes! So I promptly went out and bought a ShopVac to vacuum up as much water as I could. Wednesday I called the lawyer to see if we can get compensated by the old owner to repair it. I need to get a couple of quotes for repairs and then he'll see what he can do. :o(
Then on Saturday we got MORE rain! The basement carpet had just dried from Tuesday's rain... Saturday night it was soaked again. Again we vacuumed up as much as we could. Then it rained AGAIN last night - I'm afraid to look tonight when I get home.
How much could it cost to repair it you ask?!? I've gotten one rough estimate of $20,000 to repair it from the outside. This would entail digging up 4 feet on every side of the house!! So much for having a yard this year. :o( We'll see... I'm sure that it can be repaired from the inside and all it would cost us would be new insulation in places and drywall. If we have to reapir it ourselves we will probably choose this option. I'm sure we could repair it for under $2,000. Here are a couple of pictures of the waterlogged carpet.

Normally I don't post things like this... but I liked this one.

Subject: A Newborn's Conversation with GOD

A baby asked God, "They tell me you are sending me to earth tomorrow, but how am I going to live there being so small and helpless?"
God said, "Your angel will be waiting for you and will take care of you."

The child further inquired, "But tell me, here in heaven I don't have to do anything but sing and smile to be happy."
God said,"Your angel will sing for you and will also smile for you. And you will feel your angel's love and be very happy."
Again the child asked, "And how am I going to be able to understand when people talk to me if I don't know the language?" God said, "Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words you will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your angel will teach you how to speak."
"And what am I going to do when I want to talk to you?"
God said, "Your angel will place your hands together and will teach you how to pray." "Who will protect me?"
God said, "Your angel will defend you even if it means risking its life."
"But I will always be sad because I will not see you anymore."God said, "Your angel will always talk to you about Me and will teach you the way to come back to Me, even though I will always be next to you."At that moment there was much peace in Heaven, but voices from Earth could be heard and the child hurriedly asked, "God, if I am to leave now, please tell me my angel's name."God said, You will simply call her, "Mom."

More ATV Derbies

This past weekend we took in two ATV Derbies... one in St. Malo - this is apparently the biggest in Manitoba and the other in Warren/Woodlands... It had rained during the week so we weren't sure what we would be getting into... Morgan and I went to the one in St. Malo on Saturday and then Robin, myself, Morgan and Tamara went to the Warren/Woodlands one on Sunday. Here are some pictures... we had a blast as you can tell... :o)

She's just not having fun... yeah right!

Here are some pictures from the Warren/Woodlands Derby...this is Tamara and Robin... they're way too clean!

This is my machine after both derbies... it took me an hour and a half to clean it Sunday night. :o)

ATV Derby

Here are a few pictures from the Piney ATV Derby we went to on April 28th - what an awesome trail... we will definitely do this Derby again.

This was my machine before...

Here is a picture of a big mud hole 1/2 way through the course...

Here is a picture of the forest where a fire started sometime in the afternoon... they say ATV's started it, but I'm not convinced...

And this is my machine after... I didn't get it too dirty... :o)

Overall it was a great day - nice and sunny... but my arms and shoulders got quite sunburnt... I won't complain though.
